Singer Class 99K With Knee Control

This is our only Singer with a Knee Control. We found the machine at Clarence Flea Market in New York during April 2008.

Elizabeth was the first to see the machine at the flea market , and knowing it was pretty rare, she came running to find jim to show it to him. When looked at we noticed it was missing a foot control. We asked the dealer where the foot control was and he replied that he did not have it but dropped the price $5.00 since there was no foot control. We later discovered why there was no foot control--it has a knee control and the required bar was stored in the domed wood cover!

Singer Class 99K Faceplate

While there is little sign of wear anywhere else on the machine, the finely detailed faceplates shows polishing by thread on its path.

Belt Tension Idler

The above image also shows an idler which maintains consistent belt tension.

The speed controller is built into the machine. Note the electrical connectors leading to the controller.

Horizontal Bobbin

The 99K has a horizontal bobbin. This machine required only an oiling and a new needle to get it working. It was used to make several quilt blocks for our new great-grand-daughter.

Serial Number of this machine is Y1080180. According to Singer's site, a quantity of 10,000 were allotted on January 12, 1923. The Y would indicate place of manufacture was Clydebank, Scotland.

Domed Wood Carrying Case

Yes, we have two keys.
