Sears Kenmore Portable Sewing Machine 158.10400
This little portable will do most of the things that other portables will do and at a fraction of the cost. It even does a zig-zag which the most popular samll portables won't do. The machine appears to be very well built with metal gears (not plastic). It is truly a joy to sew on. For a lightweight machine to take to quilt classes and the like, this machine would be hard to beat.
We found our portable Sears Kenmore at a thrift store in western New York.

Portable Sears Kenmore Bobbin Case
The bobbin is accesed through the side after removing the storage tray. In addition, several throat plates are available and can be popped up from below. There is a flip lever seen in the right-hand side controlling raising and lowering the feed dogs. Ours seems to be stuck, and being made from what appears to be plastic, we don't want to force it.

The bed of the machine can be extended by flipping up a plate on front, and folding down the accessory drawer provides additional area.

A foldout plastic drawer contains accessories for the machine. We believe some of the attachments are for making button holes, but without the manual, we don't know how to use them.

The machine is contained in an attractive carrying case.
